New Friends, We Are! Penn State! (for a day), and Melli visit (9/25/11)

Over the past three weeks we've had visitors each weekend (Justin Lee, we hope you will make it four!).
First, we had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Jill and Preston Kurtz. These two were good friends of friends down in LA who moved to PA around the same time we did. We hung out with them for a day and felt like we had already known them way longer than we've known most people in Philly. I think there's something about having mutual friends that you love dearly and a Californian perspective that just speed things up when it comes to making new friends. They came down to Philly and we showed them around old town a bit. Next we hope to visit them up in Bethlehem!
This is called Elfreth's Alley...it's the longest inhabited street in America, dating back to the 1700's. We were a little confused by the British flag...seemed a little contradictory.  Jill pointed out that the residents here probably deal with similar domestic pressures and frustrations as the residents of Lombard Street. See what I mean? She knows Lombard Street. California connection love.

Here Ben is modeling George Washington's family's pew "suite" in Christ Church. Most families just got one pew...apparently the first president of the United States needed more leg room.

Next we enjoyed a visit with Joe and Janice Monkowski (parents of friend who connected us to aforementioned new friends above and also parents to my brother-in-law). We had so much fun being honorary Penn State Alums with them for a day! It was great to be back at a college game again and to spend time with good friends from home.
First, Ben needed to make a wardrobe change in the alumni tent.

It was also fun experiencing a game in the Link. The half-time show of course reminded me of Jenny =)

And this past week we had a visit with Ben's parents. They stopped into town on their way to a conference in Denver and got a taste of our life in Philly. I unfortunately don't have any pictures of this visit but Ben can follow up with his!
