Some more DC pics from our Labor-Day-Last-Hurrah-Before-School-Starts-And-We-Are-Insanely-Busy Trip
The National Archives where we saw the original copies of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights...we might be biased now, but they really ought to be in Philly.
Next Stop:
This dress was once owned and worn by Martha Washington!! The American History museum had a whole First Lady exhibit that I loved...you could really get a feel for their stature based on their dresses (i.e. Mary Lincoln had an Audrey Hepburn kind of waist). The exhibit included pieces of their china, purses, shoes, party invitations, etc. I also learned that the First Lady was not always the president's wife...if a president had a wife who was not fit to be the Host of the White House or if his wife was deceased, then the First Lady could be his daughter or other member of his family. Interesting to think about...would a man or woman with a disabled or deceased spouse be elected today?
The woman who wore this dress is my hero =)
And here is her garden =)
These are the stools on which the four college students staged the first sit-in in Greensboro to protest inequality.
We could spend weeks at these things.
Monuments:

Look who we got to hang out with!!
Adorable
So precious
And finally, Air and Space Museum! (someone was very excited about this one)
There we go...
This is the module that Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins rode in from space back down to earth after having successfully walked on the moon. Can you believe how small it is?!! Imagine Ben, Josh and that random guy all fitting inside that small space, flying at incredible speed back through the atmosphere. Amazing.
Earth is so small
We had such a great time in DC...in addition to the remarkable pieces of history we saw in the Smithsonians, we had the pleasure of spending time with both the Dunlops and the Barretts (and their adorable baby girls). AND, get this, while we were hanging out by that pond where Ruby was watching the ducks, I saw my good friend from UCLA walk by! I have not seen Jess in 8 YEARS and there she was, strolling by with her husband. Such an unexpected treat to catch up with and to get to hug my friend. God is generous like that.
Now back to school!!!
