Christmas in New York

Kind of. We went on the Friday before so it's probably the closest we'll ever get to spending Christmas in New York. Ben hadn't really walked around the city before so we had an awesome, relaxed day of strolling around, eating delicious food and seeing cool stuff. Here are some of my favorites: (delicious bagels and coffee in Greenwich Village, Chelsea Market, relaxing on the High Line, Time Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, FAO Schwartz, dinner at Sauce-yes that is cheese on the plate in front of Ben).

School's Out

Well, it's been a busy semester but I can happily report that both Ben and I have completed all of our coursework and are satisfied with the results. We'll spend the next week or so unwinding, working at our part-time jobs, having some fun, and preparing to go back to California for Christmas. We are really excited to meet our new niece, Claire. Interestingly, this will be our first Christmas spent in California since we got married 5 years ago.

We spent our second East Coast Thanksgiving down in DC with Pete and Kara again. We really love this tradition. Refreshing time spent with friends, delicious food, lots of relaxing, enjoying our nation's capital.

We arrived on Wednesday night to this delicious treat.

My new photographer didn't waste any time taking some pictures.

But I made sure to catch one of her.

Thanksgiving Day, 2012

Me and my pal.

BEAUTIFUL weather.

Our sweet friends.

Made me miss my long rides.

Happiness.

Quick snack at the only place open on Thanksgiving.

Amazing what wine and butter can do to a bird.

Cooking.

Sweet potato pie and a new version of our salted caramel apple pie with pecans.

Time to eat!

Just hanging out at a hip cafe.

Twin boots.

And this was one of about 12 attempts at a Christmas picture for my mom. Guess who wasn't cooperating.

White/Melli Annual Reunion

Jenny and Nick came to Philly! We've gotten to hang out with Nick in Philly quite a few times due to his work travel but this was the first time his lovely bride (aka my college roommate) was able to join him.

We did a lot of the fun Philly things...

And we even made it out to the Jersey Shore!

Jenny did a summer project in Ocean City, NJ so it was fun to visit her old stomping ground with her.

She worked at Monkey Bread. She used to make this dangerously delicious dessert during our senior year in college.

This was the house where she lived with a bunch of other Crusade people.

It was the first time this summer Ben and I went swimming in the ocean (my plan to swim in the Pacific during our California trip didn't pan out) and it was so refreshing. It just doesn't feel like summer to me until I have completely submerged in salt water.

Couldn't resist taking them to our favorite German restaurant!

He really loves this place.

We really love them.

They even managed to come on a Sunday when Ben was preaching. I think our church must think that Ben has his friends fly in for his preaching engagements. Either way, I love that they get to hear him teach.

Thank you for taking the time to come see us! We look forward to the next Melli/White reunion, in whichever state that may be =)

A few weekends later, our other lovely roommate Valerie and her fiancé David (whom Ben and I got to see in Germany last Christmas) got married in Scotland. I was so sad I couldn't be there but am so happy for her and David. Are they not absolutely stunning!!! Love you Valerie xoxo

Our year in photos

Well, tomorrow morning we board a plane for California. It was about 14 months ago that we moved out here and this is the longest period of time I have spent away from my home state. Knowing that I will finally be going back has caused me to think back on the last year and everything that's happened since that day we packed up the truck and headed east. Here are some pictures of the memories that have come to mind...(disclaimer: this will not be a comprehensive list by any means)

A few weeks before the big move we shot down to Yosemite for a quick visit. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed the long drive to process the upcoming move.

The week leading up to our move, thanks to an incredibly generous gift from some friends at church, we were able to spend a week in Hawaii. What a blessing!!

These were just a few of the friends that helped us pack that truck up with all of our belongings.

Thankfully someone thought to take a picture of us in front of the beloved house we got to live in for a few years.

Finally, the drive.

Barretts visit Philly!

As you can see it's been a full year!! We've been blessed by all the visits and the opportunities to explore the East Coast. We hope to do a lot more exploring in the next year. At first it was hard for me to believe it's been 14 months away from California, but when I look back at all these photos, it's easy to understand where the time went. This move was a tough decision to make, and it definitely came with rough periods of transition, but as a whole we've loved Philly and are glad we came.

But I'm not going to lie, I can barely wait another 12 hours to get on the plane to visit California =)
