Big Sky Country (9/5/11)

You would not believe this, but my program just gave me three weeks off between the summer session and the start of fall semester. A year and a half worth of vacation! Even though Ben worked really hard during that time, we still got to spend a lot of time with one another. My guess is that we've spent more time with one another this summer than we have gotten to spend in the last four years of our marriage. Ok that might be a slight overestimation, but let me just say that sleeping in on Sundays and the freedom to travel on weekends without the need to be home by Saturday night has been good. Not that I'll be sad if we ever go back to working for a church (which we truly loved and would gladly do again) but I'm continually thankful for this season in our life.
Another wonderful treat during this vacation is that I got to visit my mom and step-dad in Montana. Hiking is one of my absolute favorite things to do; hiking with the one who taught me to appreciate natural beauty and the outdoors, what could be better? My mom and I were able to spend several gorgeous days soaking up God's stunning gifts of nature in Glacier National Park, Waterton Lakes National Park and Jewel Basin. In my adult life, it is not too often that I get to spend one-on-one time with my mom but when I do, I treasure it and store it in my memory with a smile in my heart.

I'm thankful to Ben for faithfully working hard while I was away, to my mom for an incredible week that I will never forget, and to God for allowing us to explore and marvel at the wonders of His awesome beauty!
