Still Waiting

Well, it's been a week since the due date and we are still waiting. I've received a lot of encouragement about great people I know that were late and how a great baby is worth the wait. I have no doubt our child is worth the wait. And I am happy to wait another week to meet her if that's the healthiest time for her to arrive.

What's difficult for me is that Ben's time before starting school again feels like it's slipping away each morning I wake up not in labor. What's difficult is still going into work every few days (albeit shorter shifts thankfully!) The most difficult thing is that my lovely mom is here with us, ready to help with baby, and each day that goes by without baby is a day lost with Mimi's help and love.

All that being said, we've had a great time relaxing as much as possible. This weekend we were able to show my mom the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. We stopped by Isgro's, the Italian bakery Ben's parents introduced us to by sending us one of their strawberry cheesecakes for Valentine's Day last year, and in addition to sampling some of their delicious pastries, thanks to the ladies working the counter, were able to expose my mom to the South Philly accent. The playoffs have provided hours of relaxing on the couch. My mom has been spoiling us with delicious food both in our apartment and around Philly. Let's just say that the week before she arrived I had lost a pound in between appointments. The first week she was here I added on two.

We've been setting up baby things and a certain cat has taken issue with all the new items taking up his space:

Free box of diapers from our next door neighbors

Amazing activity mat from my sweet friends

He is not even a fan of me passing time with puzzles. He's a little needy right now.

One great benefit to her coming late is that I had time to finish her blanket. It took me a while to decide on which pattern for her baby blanket, but when I found one named "Sugarplum" it made perfect sense since her Mimi took us to the Nutcracker when she was 39 weeks old. I look forward to sharing the story with her about her first trip to NYC while snuggling in this blanket.

NB: friendly nursing reminder-EVERYTHING will be removed from the crib when she is actually using it. Nothing is needed in cribs, especially not bumpers!
(and thanks to awesome friends for letting us borrow the bassinet!)

Whether it be a few more hours or a few more days, we are prepared to wait as long as it takes to welcome this lovely girl to the world. Thanks for all the encouragement while we wait.
