Last Friday we had the privilege of attending Kate and Jamin Wunderink's wedding. Kate was my roommate both on the Mercy Ship and in the village where we lived for several months. Not only has she seen me through some of my ugliest, weakest moments, she was also at my side to witness such raw beauty like I've never seen before or since in Africa. She and Jamin welcomed us to Philly back in March when we came to visit and we were so excited to have friends in Philly. As it turns out, they felt called to move to Florida for this first season of their marriage. Although I am really sad to see them go, I am so thankful the timing worked out to be at their wedding and to spend a few sweet moments with them before they left (not to mention to meet and get to know Jamin!). I deeply admire Kate's faith and am so excited to see what God has in store for her and Jamin in Florida. Here's a few pictures from their beautiful wedding:
Right after we were able to hug and congratulate the newlyweds, we took off for Washington D.C. to spend a weekend with some of Ben's best friends from high school. It was almost like we got to do a make-up reunion since we missed his 10 year reunion last year!
On Saturday morning, Pete and Kara took us down to the old part of Alexandria. The fire station was having an open house...that 1774 on top of the building is no joke. It really is 200+ years old.
Here's Ben with John and Katie and Luca Walker.
And here's our wonderful hosts for the weekend: Peter, Kara and Annalise Barrett. We are so glad to be living so close to them now and look forward to seeing them on a more regular basis.
We walked down to the waterfront...(that is DC on the other side I think)
Overall it was SUCH a fun weekend. It was great for us to reconnect with Ben's old (and my new) friends. I love when we get together because I end up hearing stories that wouldn't otherwise be told by Ben alone. It makes me feel like I can understand a deeper piece of him, one that came and went before I entered his life but that has had such a deep impact on who he is today. I'm thankful for these friends that love and understand him and that bring out pieces of him that I can't bring out on my own.
(Adorable Annalise with her new dress...she had us all in stitches, but I just love this picture with her and her parents)
California!
